Sustainability

Our strong operational growth comes with a responsibility to society that we accept and embrace. Being cost-conscious makes us, by nature, very aware of conserving resources and limiting waste. Even so we have an ambitious sustainability agenda and have made a lot of progress in recent years.

We understand that even when we make small changes, our size amplifies the impact of our actions, and ultimately, we can make a big difference. That’s why we have committed ourselves to ambitious, concrete, and measurable targets through the implementation of the Action Sustainability Programme. The core strategy of this programme is based on thorough, fact-based insights into our value chain and concrete indicators (KPIs) for each of our material topics.

Action Sustainability Programme

Tjeerd Bartels, Head of Sustainability

Our large size amplifies the impact of even the smallest change we make, so we can make a big difference. We just got started but are eager to make sustainability accessible for everyone.”

The Action Sustainability Programme is inspired by the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We also derive inspiration and strategic guidance from the European Green deal. Action contributes to certain SDGs, building its ASP strategy upon four pillars.

Sustainability strategy

In 2022, Action raised its sustainability ambitions to a new level. Our updated Action Sustainability Programme (ASP), has a new materiality analysis as its starting point. In 2022, we identified Action’s current most relevant impacts on the environment, people, and governance. The result is that we have updated six material topics and identified two new material topics.

Ambitions and KPIs

Talent development is a priority as we strive to stimulate internal mobility and promotions, which helps preserve the Action DNA during our continued growth. We foster an inclusive culture where people can continue to grow and develop themselves, and are appreciated. The fun, teamwork and respect makes our working atmosphere pleasant, and our people proud and engaged.

Our people are key to our success, now and in the future. We aim to ensure that every employee has access to relevant training and development opportunities enabling them to excel and grow.

In most cases, we already had clear targets, KPIs and a strategy for the existing material topics, although we have made some changes. For example, we added a KPI to Responsible sourcing and reset a target because we have already achieved it. However, the new material topics are still in early development. For these we are currently working on formulating concrete and meaningful indicators. All the targets and KPIs are aimed at mitigating Action’s negative impact and creating positive impact.
